Coffee + Faith + Jesus

You've seen this photo from me many times + probably almost every other Christian girl you follow.
This year I'm in a mentoring program at my church called Flourish + my goal is to do my quiet time in the mornings instead of at night. In order to do this, I've claimed one of my roommate's cute chairs {barely seen under blanket} for my devo time.

Another thing you've seen from me often is my love of coffee + this leads to a choice I have each morning.  I can reheat what's left of yesterday's coffee + start my quiet time or I can wait for the new pot to make. Most mornings, I need the coffee immediately {how else would I focus} + opt for the quick reheat.

When I choose to reheat yesterday's coffee, I have to reheat it a few times to keep it hot + then it really quickly turns lukewarm. And by that point the new pot is made. I've heard many sermons, teachings, + preachings on not picking what is instant gratification when something better is coming in the long run. Many times we don't know what is coming, but in this situation I do - its fresh, piping hot coffee, y'all! I know its going to be so good!

And here's where I've learned my lesson.

I don't like day old coffee, but sometimes I think I need it to satisfy me. Same is true with my faith. I can't rely on yesterday's faith to get me through today. Each day is so different that it needs new faith. Spending time with Him each day allows me to continue to brew a stronger relationship with Him. I know anytime I spend with Him will create that fresh, piping hot feeling of new coffee that I get excited for each morning.

Revelation 3:15-16 says "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Why do we want to be lukewarm? Each day we are called to daily take up our cross to follow Him {Luke 9:23}. Everything about our faith is a daily thing. Yes, our faith builds today on yesterday, but if I / we keep relying on day old faith, we run the risk of becoming weak. I don't like weak coffee...I don't want a weak relationship with Him.

I guess this creates a new Grace Tip!

Don't let your faith live on day old coffee.

My birthday is Sunday + SouthernGritsandGraces.com is also celebrating 1 year in existence so that means a giveaway. All details will be available no later than lunchtime on Monday, so check back then! I'm seriously floored at the little following this blog has - thank you for reading my posts, it really means a lot to me :-)
